We all know what it’s like: the seasons suddenly change and we’re left with that all-too-familiar feeling that we’ve got nothing to wear. Summer is over and it’s time to put away the linens and the lightweight cottons.
Winter’s not yet here, so it’s time to introduce a timeless, wearable in-between capsule wardrobe that can up the ante when it comes to your outfit rotation. And right now, it’s all eyes on our Harris Tweed. We’ve taken the tried-and-true Harris Tweed and reimagined it for the modern man, bringing it into a number of pieces – so there’s something to suit every style.
Harris Tweed
When it comes to classic English style, Harris Tweed has to be one of the most famous and defining fabrics; it’s been worn and loved all over the world for its rich history and culture for over 100 years – not to mention its incredible texture and practical properties, like warmth, durability and timelessness. Harris Tweed is so loved, in fact, that it’s illegal to sell counterfeit versions. Every single piece of Harris Tweed has to be handwoven in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland and it is the only fabric in the world that’s governed by its own Act of Parliament. It’s all-natural and is made with pure virgin wool, so it takes years of training to produce and is often a generational skill that is passed on through families from the area. To this day, it’s the only fabric that is produced in commercial quantities by completely traditional methods. Pretty special, if you ask us.
Nehru Waistcoats
For the new season, we’ve got a few pieces that we’ve made with pure Harris Tweed, starting with our much-loved Nehru waistcoats. Available in classic autumnal brown and a separate green version, our Harris Tweed Nehru Waistcoat is single breasted and is the perfect alternative to lightweight cotton versions. Like all Harris Tweed products, it’s made from 100% pure virgin wool and is, of course, handwoven in the Outer Hebrides. Whichever colour you choose, it’s the perfect piece to add to your autumn rotation for those days where you need an extra layer, but not a full jacket.
Raglan Coat
Next up, our take on the Raglan coat. Like all iterations of this coat, it’s comfortable and roomy, thanks to its lack of armhole sleeves and the fact that the arms continue all the way up to the collar. In our eyes, it’s the perfect overcoat; it looks great with everything from a suit to jeans and is generously cut for the most cosy, comfortable wearing possible. Made with a weighty 100% pure new wool, it provides extra warmth but the roomy (yet still refined) shape means it’ll rarely overheat you.
Nehru Jackets
Last but not least, the mainstay in any man’s wardrobe (especially one that frequents SIRPLUS), is the Nehru jacket. This brown Harris Tweed version sits somewhere between a blazer and field jacket, making it the perfect piece to dress up and dress down. It’s tailored but still functional, offering a breathable yet perfectly warm layering option for when the weather turns. This jacket is the very essence of taking something timeless and recreating it for the modern man.
