Meet the team - Simon.

How long have you worked for SIRPLUS?

I joined in October 2017 so just over 2 and a half years now. Time flies!

What does your role entail?

As the Retail and Operations Manager I essentially manage the shops and sales staff and the day to day operations. I do a lot of rota management, check-in with the sales staff, stock calls and everything that needs to be done to keep the shops operational.

Being originally from Sweden, I’ve taken it upon myself to be the Fika ambassador in the office as well. Fika means making time for friends and colleagues, to share a cup of coffee (or tea) and something sweet on the side. It’s a moment to pause together and not talk about work.

(It’s essentially a glorified tea-break, I know!)

It’s our Friday ritual now!

How are you finding the transition to re-opening?

We are excited to be re-connecting with the community. We are coming back with new energy. There’s been some painting and touch-ups to the shops so they look fresh and ready to go. It’s been tough but we’ve learnt to adapt quickly and adjust our focus. We're ready to come back stronger!

With the shops, we've worked hard to make everything a safe and pleasant experience for everyone. Since our shops are on the smaller side, not like the mega-stores on Oxford Street, it's fortunately a lot easier to keep things safe. We can manage the number of people in every store whilst still being able to offer a great shopping experience.

What’s on your mood board from this season?

It’s a great mix. You have your staple pieces in a really wearable range of colours. Then we’ve really jazzed up some of them too, adding some statements like the Luanda and Tresco prints. They're ideal for future festivals and for making the most of being outside at the moment.

There are some new shapes in the Cuban shirts and kaftans. They give me real Talented Mr Ripley vibes. I think they wear really well too. So if you're working from home but still want to look sharp on Zoom and pop out to soak up some sun on your lunch break - a Cuban is just what you need!

What are your favorite pieces from the current collection?

I was surprised and really excited by the Yellow Cotton Linen Grandad. Usually yellow isn’t something that suits my skin tone, but this one is just perfect. It’s a subtle faded yellow that works really well on any tone. It’s converted me to bolder colours.

I really like the Hendrix Camp Collar too. That’s one of my favourites. I have worn it a lot already.

What’s your most memorable piece from SIRPLUS?

I’m quite simple in my style. I like good quality pieces that last. I really loved the cord jackets we had last year, I fell in love with them. They are quite similar to the Nehru Chore we have now too. They are simple and feel like a workman's jacket, anything with a Nehru collar I think really works, it’s understated.

But to be honest some of the most memorable pieces I think are happening now. The Textured Polo and the Stone Chore - I think they top anything we have done before!

What’s the best bit about your job?

Working here really is being part of watching something grow. Building it and seeing it evolve. I started with SIRPLUS just before we got the Portobello store. Back then it was just online and on the market. Now we’ve grown to 5 stores! It feels really incredible to be a part of that.

I also get to meet really great people. I have incredible conversations with our customers. People from all walks of life. People from interesting places, industries and lives. Every customer has a story to tell and I love hearing them.

I really enjoy working with the team, especially the sales team. I work really closely with them and they’re all a good bunch. I’ve known Dan, our Camden Passage Store Manager, for years even before joining SIRPLUS, so it's really like working with real teammates. We have a lot of fun, and at the same time work really hard for something we all care about.

What’s always on your desk?

Coffee and a Bourbon (the biscuit kind).

Coffee or Tea?

Coffee. Always. Filter coffee!

What song reminds you of this season?

Mam Yinne Wa by Alogte Oho & His Sounds of Joy. The perfect companion to a Tresco or Luanda Print.
